Intinerary
Discover the essence of Sri Lanka with some magical sightseeing and awe-inspiring scenery on a journey that takes you to its cultural heart and the tranquil hills of the south. Visit Sigiriya; the formidable Rock Fortress, lovely Kandy; rich in cultural diversity and the site of the Temple of the Tooth, pretty Nuwara Eliya; also known as ‘Little England’ for its colonial architecture and set 6,128 feet above sea level, and Colombo; the buzzing capital city.
Day 1: Colombo – Dambulla – Kandalama (160 kilometres) Arrive in Colombo. Transfer to Dambulla via Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Visit Dambulla, the largest cave temple complex containing statues and paintings relating to the life of Lord Buddha. The temples are cut out of an enormous granite outcrop that rises more than 160 metres and offers majestic views across the surrounding plains.
Day 2: Kandalama Climb one of Asia’s major archaeological sites, the 5th century Sigiriya Rock Fortress, built atop a massive 200-metre high rock surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs and other structures. Explore the citadel and the 1,500 year-old frescoes.
Day 3: Kandalama – Kandy (80 kilometres) Continue your journey to spiritual Kandy. Enroute visit Matale Spice Garden to learn about Sri Lanka’s exotic spices. Upon arrival in Kandy visit the heart of the city and stroll the scenic Kandy Lake. Visit the famed Temple of the Tooth of Lord Buddha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and watch a cultural show afterwards.
Day 4: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya (80 kilometres) Embark on a scenic mountain drive to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka’s tea growing centre and learn the art of tea making with a visit to a tea factory. The tea of Sri Lanka is better known as Ceylon Tea and it has been world renowned for centuries for its quality and distinctive taste. Nuwara Eliya, dubbed the ‘Little England of Sri Lanka’ is located in the thick, misty hills of this paradise isle. The colonial atmosphere remains preserved, resembles a British countryside complete with rose gardens, hedges and red-roofed bungalows.
Day 5: Nuwara Eliya – Colombo (165 kilometres) After breakfast, drive through scenic green valleys to Colombo where you can do some last minute shopping. Colombo, is Sri Lanka’s commercial capital and major port. This chic metropolis brings together all the hues and cultures within this paradise isle.
Day 6: Colombo Proceed to the airport for your departure flight.
