In January and February, temperatures can approach freezing, according to altitude. The spring months of March and April are a lovely time to visit, as meadows bloom.
 

Intinerary

Experience the very best of Switzerland’s natural beauty and charming cities on board some of the most iconic Swiss rail journeys taking in some spectacular countryside and staying in beautiful Swiss towns on the way.

Day 1: Zurich Arrival in Zurich and train to your city hotel. Depending on your time of arrival you may have the opportunity to discover the world famous Bahnhofstrasse shopping mile or stroll along the banks of Lake Zürich.

Day 2: Zurich – Interlaken This train ride will take you past romantic waterfalls and over the magnificent Brünig mountain pass to Lucerne and finally to Interlaken nestled in the Bernese Oberland on an alluvial plain, between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.

Day 3: Interlaken – Montreux In Interlaken explore Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe. Early evening your journey on the Golden Pass line passes through the wild romantic Pays d’Enhaut with the scenic villages of Château d’Oex and Montbovon. A tunnel takes you from the mountains on one side down to the Mediterranean ambience of Montreux at Lake Geneva.

Day 4: Montreux – Zermatt After breakfast travel from Montreux to Zermatt. Take time to explore this car-free town that lies at the foot of the Matterhorn. Enjoy the views of the mountain from a terrace in Zermatt or get up and close via the Gornergrat railway or the gondola.

Day 5: Zermatt – St. Moritz In the morning travel along the deep Rhone valley, as the Glacier Express journeys through an incredibly fascinating part of the Alps. The train drives on over the Oberalp pass and through the impressive Rhine gorge before arriving in St. Moritz.

Day 6: St. Moritz – Lugano Board the narrow-gauge Bernina Express at St. Moritz station and enjoy one of the most impressive scenic rail journeys Switzerland offers. Arrival in Lugano, at the border of Lugano Lake in the Italian part of Switzerland.

Day 7: Lugano – Lucerne With the Wilhelm Tell Express you travel from the Mediterranean south to the traditional heart of Switzerland, an unforgettable trip through impressive countryside before arriving in Lucerne.

Day 8: Zurich After breakfast transfer by train to Zurich Airport.
