With most of the country lying close to the coast, temperatures are mainly mild with the far north having sub-tropical weather during summer and the inland alpine areas of the South Island dropping to near freezing in winter to herald the onset of the ski season. The average temperature decreases, the further south you travel. January and February (summer) are the warmest months and July is the coolest month of the year.
 

Intinerary

From lively Auckland to the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua and the stunning landscapes of the South Island, this tour offers an incredible insight into the many diverse aspects of this fascinating country.

Day 1: Auckland On arrival, you will be met and assisted at the airport before transferring to your hotel.

Day 2: Auckland – Pauanui (140 kilometres) On delivery of your car, drive to Pauanui on the east coast – a region known for its beautiful sandy beaches.

Day 3: Pauanui – Rotorua (180 kilometres) Marvel at the geothermal activity of geysers and boiling mud pools in Rotorua.

Day 4: Rotorua Spend the day at your leisure discovering this thermal wonderland.

Day 5: Rotorua – Napier (218 kilometres) Drive on to Napier, renowned for its art deco architecture and its grape industry.

Day 6: Napier – Wellington (334 kilometres) Located on the shores of a magnificent harbour and surrounded by the rugged beauty of green hills, Wellington, the capital, is one of the most scenic cities in New Zealand.

Day 7: Wellington – Picton Drop your rental car at the airport or the ferry depot and transfer onto South Island by
plane or ferry to Picton.

Day 8: Picton – Christchurch Transfer to Christchurch or pick of rental and drive to Christchurch. Rest of day at leisure.

Day 9: Christchurch – Greymouth – Franz Josef (173 kilometres) Board the TranzAlpine train for a scenic ride across the magnificent Southern Alps. Pick up your rental car in Greymouth and drive to Franz Josef.

Day 10: Franz Josef – Queenstown (355 kilometres) Explore the glacier at Franz Josef and drive to Queenstown.

Day 11: Queenstown Spend the day at leisure admiring the awe-inspiring landscapes of Queenstown.

Day 12: Queenstown – Milford Sound – Te Anau (420 kilometres) Enjoy the majestic Mitre Peak, the spectacular Bowen Falls and a fjord cruise on the Milford Sound before heading to Te Anau.

Day 13: Te Anau – Dunedin (290 kilometres) Drive to Dunedin, the ‘Edinburgh of the South’. Choose to enjoy a wildlife excursion on the rugged Otago Peninsula.

Day 14: Dunedin – Christchurch or Auckland Immerse in some last minute shopping before dropping off your rental car at the airport and boarding your onward flight.
